About The ENMU Campus PoliceThe ENMU Police Department is a full-service police agency and is open twenty-four hours a day, every day. The ENMU Police Department functions like most police departments, and is similar to a municipal police department for a city of 15,000 people. ENMU police officers have enforcement authority on all ENMU property controlled by the Board of Regents throughout the State of New Mexico, and have concurrent jurisdictional authority in some neighboring areas under mutual aid agreements. ENMU police officers share a good working relationship with all surrounding local, state, and federal agencies. The primary functions of the ENMU Police Department are law enforcement, criminal investigation, and emergency response. Integral to these are the crime prevention and public education programs sponsored by the ENMU Police Department. These programs include but in limited to:
Programs are scheduled at the request of any on-campus and most off-campus groups or organizations. In addition, the Police Department works with others on campus (such as the Housing Department and Residence Life) to design specific public education programs for the needs of each area. The ENMU Police Department also teaches blocks during academic courses at the request of instructors and faculty. Courses are tailored for each audience, and range in length from 15 minutes to 1 hour. Further information, including how to request a course, descriptions of the courses or discussion on specific needs is available by contacting the ENMU Police Department at 562.2392. Copies of police reports are available for inspection by the public 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the lobby of the ENMU Police Department. The ENMU Police Department also submits its crime statistics to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Uniform Crime Reports. Security OfficersThe ENMU Security Officers are an asset to the community and the department. Besides providing for the overall physical security of the campus, their services include providing after hours escorts, assisting patrol operations, key services, and calling-in suspicious activity. ENMU Police Department Bicycle PatrolThe ENMU Bike Patrol has been in existence since 1995. Bike officers patrol the University responding to calls for service as well as identifying bicycle violations and crimes in progress. Bike officers are highly visible and help deter crimes on campus. The motivation or thrust behind the program was to provide a quick, mobile police presence in an inner campus area. What is particularly interesting about the ENMU Police Department Bicycle program is that it operates full-time year round in a relatively warm southern New Mexico climate. Vehicle RegistrationYou can register your vehicle at the ENMU Police Department. It is mandated by the Board of Regions that every ENMU Student, faculty and staff are to register and display their decal properly within ENMU property. The students register their vehicles yearly and the faculty and staff register every two years. Contact Us:Emergencies: 911 Non-emergency police matters: 575.562.2392 Mailing address: 1500 S.
